Sinopsis

Alec Torres Freyermuth realizó sus estudios de Oceanología en la Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (1998-2002, México) y posteriormente  obtuvo una beca del Consejo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología para continuar estudios de maestría en Ingeniería Oceánica en el Florida Institute of Technology (2002-2004, EUA), y de doctorado en Ingeniería de Costas en la Universidad de Cantabria (2004-2007, España) con la tesis de “Modelado Numérico de la Hidrodinámica en Zonas de Rompientes de playas”. A principios de 2008 inició un posdoctorado en la Universidad de Florida enfocado al estudio de transporte de sedimentos cohesivos en playas y su efecto en la propagación del oleaje. A mediados de ese mismo año extendió su contrato para continuar trabajando en la misma línea de investigación en el Center for Applied Coastal Research de la Universidad de Delaware durante el año siguiente. En septiembre de 2009 ingresó al Instituto de Ingeniería de la UNAM-Campus Sisal a través del programa de repatriación del CONACYT, y desde enero de 2010 ingresó al Instituto de Ingeniería y pertenece al Sistema Nacional de Investigadores. Desde agosto del 2014 es Investigador Titular A y Coordinador del LIPC.  Actualmente es Nivel 2 en el SIN. Durante su carrera ha participado en la elaboración de proyectos de investigación aplicada y fundamental en ingeniería de costas en México, España, Estados Unidos y Taiwan.

Summary

Dr. Torres-Freyermuth obtained his B.Sc. in Oceanography from the Autonomous University of Baja California (Mexico). He was awarded by a scholarship of the National Council of Science and Technology of Mexico to conduct his M.Sc. in Ocean Engineering at the Florida Institute of Technology (USA), and his Ph.D. degree in Coastal Engineering at the University of Cantabria (Spain). He was a postdoctoral research assistant at the University of Florida (2008) and postdoctoral research associate at the University of Delaware (2009). Currently, he is Associate Professor at the Institute of Engineering of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Dr. Torres-Freyermuth is an expert in the high-resolution numerical modelling of nearshore hydrodynamics and its implications to (cohesive and non-cohesive) sediment transport and coastal inundation. He is PI of research and applied projects in Mexico and actively collaborated as a participant in international projects. He is a member of the National System for Researchers of Mexico since 2010.
